VO-67 Reunion 2013

Once again, VO-67 will gather to celebrate former times and renew old friendships. It is our eighth reunion! This year the host hotel is the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in San Diego, CA, which is an outstanding hotel with modern offerings and close proximity to downtown San Diego.

We're sure you have already made your hotel reservations. But, if not, just look at the calendar, time is flying! The deadline to get your hotel room at the VO-67 price is Monday, June 10, 2013 at 12:00 AM. NOTE: If you are concerned about paying this far out, just remember that the hotel does not charge your credit card for your room until you check into the hotel. The hotel just uses your card to "hold" your reservation. Therefore, you can book your room NOW and not worry about being charged until you check out in June. Make sure to ask the hotel what their cancellation deadline is, so you do not get charged if you are forced to cancel or for any reason fail to show up.

San Diego has a lot to offer including monuments and historic places like Old Town San Diego, the USS Midway, the Gas Lamp Quarter, the new 30 ft. tall statue of "The Kiss," the haunted Star of India schooner, and much more. It is also close to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios, Sea World, and numerous bay cruises. As always your reunion committee has put a tremendous amount of time into lining up the best possible reunion. As you review what is offered, We believe you will agree that this time and effort has really paid off. Just a note: The complete VO-67 Archives will be on display at this reunion. Come early and stay late as our room rates are valid for 3 days prior to and 3 days after our official reunion dates.

Below are the highlights and reunion schedule which is all INCLUDED with your registration fee (unless otherwise noted). The costs to put on a reunion have risen; however, the committee has taken several steps and many considerations to keep the price very reasonable for what you will receive.

Thursday, July 11, 2013, 12 noon: The VO-67 hospitality room officially opens at the Crowne Plaza Hotel San Diego. Then, in the evening, there will be a delicious ice cream social at the VO-67 hospitality room poolside veranda. This has become very popular with the VO-67 folks. A very limited supply of squadron memorabilia such as hats, shirts, and patches will be available for purchase in the hospitality room.

Friday, July 12, 2013, 8:00 a.m. sharp: a bus will pick us up at the Crowne Plaza and take us to San Diego Zoo Safari Park in sunny Escondido, CA. We will have sufficient time to visit the wild African animals and ride the Africa Safari Tram, a 25 minute ride. This trip is included in your registration fees. Not sure what to expect on this outing. Perhaps someone gets eaten.: At 12:15 p.m., we board the bus and will be taken to a delicious buffet lunch, (can't wait), at the famous Pala Casino! After eating and possibly a little gambling, we will depart for our reunion hotel. This will be an exciting day for all. After resting up at the hotel, folks will be free to have dinner at the hotel or many of the restaurants in San Diego area, or just hang out at the hospitality room.

Saturday, January 13, 2013 - AM -the VO-67 Association business meeting will be held, with tea, coffee and rolls available, as we discuss Association business and hold elections of officers for the next two years.

PM - During the dinner banquet, winners of the Association scholarships for 2012-13 will be announced. We will once again pay our respects for lost shipmates with the tolling of the bell ceremony. Our own Jack Valenty has again agreed to preside as MC over a great fun-filled evening of brotherhood and remembrance, and Commander Shedd of the mighty Warship U.S.S. Milius, along with his XO, CMC and several sailors (including the color guard) will be with us! This is a very special honor you will not want to miss. Please fully review all the materials and join your shipmates in San Diego, CA, for a great time. Please return your registration materials ASAP.

As always, all military associates involved in the " Igloo White Project " , Jolly Green Giants, Nails, Hobos, Zorro's, Nimrods, Batcats, VAH-21 project Trim, Crazy Cats, NKP personal, ect. Are invited to join us and attend our get together in San Diego. We would also be honored to have any Khe Sanh veterans or USS Milius shipmates join us.

How many more reunions will we have anyway? We are all getting older and we find it harder and harder to attend. One thing that VO-67 folks should remember. You were part of something very unique back then. One of only about three hundred sky sailors to perform a very special and dangerous mission recognized in 2007 by the President of the United States as being performed with "Extraordinary Heroism". The award of the "Presidential Unit Citation" points out that the men of VO-67, saved countless American and Allied lives. Thank you for your valor !
